Hi there,

I found out about Octane today and I'm really impressed. I read on the net that it was 49 euros a couple of weeks back. Just wondered if it was likely to be on offer again? I'm a student and although I agree the 99 euro price at the moment is extremely good, I still can't afford it! Being a student makes me poor, and being over 21 I cant even get student discount if I could afford it then hehe. Is it likely to be on offer again for 49 euros?

Hope it doesn't seem like a silly question, but I cant express how much I want this software. It would certainly help me in my, now final year at University!

Hi, I think it is very unlikey that the special price of 49 euro will be repeated.
Refractive have actually stated recently that they intend to put the price up to 199 euro after the next stable beta - possibly only a few months away.
If you want to be in now is the time to do so.
The current beta is pretty good and stable and has more features than the demo.
99 euro is a very reasonable introductory offer even for struggling students

Like Pixelrush said, I don't think the 49 euro will be coming back. The 199 euro price tag wont go into effect until early 2011 sometime, if we go off of what radiance has said in the past. At that point current users will have to pay an additional 99 euro to get the next version. Look at it now as a credit of some sort. You pay the 99 euro now and another 99 euro when the software technically comes out of beta. I know what it is like to be a student over 21 so I can understand your position, but when compared to all the other gpu, or even cpu based, rendering tools out there, you can't beat the price tag. Maybe send radiance a PM and ask if he can alter the age limit on the student discount. Worth a shot.

Are you sure about that? I thought that whoever buys the license in beta stage, gets final at half price, ie. no additional payments for 1.0, but for 2.0 and on. If this is not the case, then whats the point of buying the software now, go trough all the beta testing mess, and at the end pay the same as someone who will buy the final deal?

@dannrees, you wont get a better deal than Octane. 99 EUR is not much, a few beers less / month, during your final univ year(s)...

Once the software gets to v2.0 it will cost an additional 99 euro. Technically we are on v1.022 and will be in the v1.x for some time.

Ok, so let me sum up:

* from 1.000, trough 1.0xx = beta stage = license costs 99EUR

* When the software gets out of beta it will be called final 1.0 (all promised features included, production ready), the license will now cost 199EUR for new buyers, no additional payment for beta buyers required

* The software will be improving trough 1.1, 1.2, stages - still no additional payment for beta buyers

* Eventually Octane 2.0 will be released, beta buyers will get that for a reduced upgrade price

So the first production ready version of Octane will cost you 99EUR, if you are a beta buyer, and not 2x99EUR

The only reason I was not buying when the beta was 49 euros was because it was indeed a 'beta' program - I am still not able to have it running in my Fedora 13.

Although I am rather impressed by OctaneRender from the demo video, I really hope that the company understands the dilemma.

What problems are you having with the demo?
