Hair not converting correctly?

Hi All,

the first few renders i have done in Octane were done with one character with no issues with her hair.

I am now trying a different character, and it seems the hair is not converting correctly.

Looks like the textures are not applied, the hair renders as solid white/grey prop. I have manually added the texture to the material node, but only applied the texture and keeps the material as a solid. I have tried to set the node to material mix to apply the transparancy map, to no avail.

picture attached to illustrate.

what am i doing wrong?

Hi

Can you post a screenshot of the Poser Material Room node setup for the figures hair pls, and also a screenshot of the resulting material in the Octane Material tab.

Just to be sure you are looking at the converted material, try rightclicking the Octane material and "Reconvert from Poser".

Hi Paul

when originally importing this hair prop from poser, octane enables texture emission, turns the hair into one big ball of light. the previous screenshot was after i turned off emission

anyway, i spent a bit of time puzzling my way through this. I used the previous hair prop that has worked for me as a template to setup the material nodes for this new hair prop manually. It now looks almost like it should.

as seen in attached screenshot though, there is now some black lines on the forehead and temples. Have not figured out what this is, or how to fix it. definately related to the hair, as removing the hair prop completely and rendering the bald head shows no black lines.

also attached screenshot of the material room node setup for you.

It looks like the original hair material that didnt convert properly has a lot of ambient light in it - which has triggered the material conversion to treat it as an emitter. You can see there is an ambient map, and if the ambient_value for the map is > 1 the plugin will convert the material to an emitter. Simply reduce the ambient_value to < 1 should fix this and the material will convert correctly.

The lines on the side are vertices self-shadowing, so set your rayepsilon in the kernel to 0 to fix this. If that doesn't do it, morph the hair away from the figures skull so they are not touching.
