Eye Creation shading with textures and nodes?

Hi,
I am trying to make Eyes and was wondering, if there would be a better solution for making them.
for the Eye with the texture
and the transparent mesh
any tipps for eye creations with nodes and textures? a cartoon style would also be fine.
