Could you explain what closed 3dsmax containers mean?
I just don't know what it is.

3dsmax offers containers and xref as a means of referencing files.
for further details please check the 3dsmax docs.
the point is: if containers are open, they are stored with the file. so autobackup and storing can be very timeconsuming (my files are 500mb from a CAD system).
if they are closed they are stored in an extra file, your working-file can be very small.
they are basically a sort of xref-file that can be displayed in the viewport, with a proxy i suppose, but are only fully loaded at render-time.
vray rt has a checkbox for xref and containers.

hopoe that helps,

I don't have any experience with containers. I will try to use it.
