some questions about final renders and background pictures..

Hi.

I'm completely new to Octane Render and after a few days playing around with the demo I've bought the standalone last friday. So far I'm very happy with the program but I couldn't figure out a few things although I did a search in this forum.

1. Normally I do my renderings using VUE but in OCTANE I can't get the background feature working...
I've set up my scene (imported obj-mesh from Poser or whatever) and I've choosed a background picture from my harddisk (set background picture...and so on and applied it to the scene)
But I can't see that picture in the scene and it won't be visible when the scene starts rendering... Where is it?
Please tell me how I can get that feature working.

2. I know from VUE I can save my render to disk; In the program settings in OCTANE I've choosed (e.g.) 1200x900 px as a standard render resolution. When I import a mesh to the scene Octane will immediately start to render but in the main viewport/window which has a completely different resolution (my sceen is a 27'' widescreen at 1920 x 1080) even if I've applied the desired resolution in the "mesh preview resolution" tab (I have to admit I didn't understand the meaning of "int2resolution" and "int2")
Now what I'm confused about is this: Is the final render that what you see in the preview pane/viewport on the screen or will Octane render a final picture somewhere to the harddisk in background? Does that mean I'll have to save the rendered picture from the screen as a PNG with a rightclick to my harddisk?

Sorry for that maybe stupid questions but I could't find the solutions by myself reading the FAQ or the manual (didn't understand some things - my english isn't very good)

Hi MyRho, I will help you with your questions.

1. In order to see the background image you have imported you need to enable the alphachannel option. If you look on the right side of the program you will see different icons vertically shown, click on the last icon.

2. Even if you see a different window size in octane, whatever resolution you chose it will be that.
The differences between the int2 and int2resolution is simply two ways of approaching your X and Y fields for the final frame size. I'd recommend leaving this as default. You won't really need to worry about the other type. Lastly the final rendered image is what you see on the screen so after it is finished when the number of maxsamples is reached then you can save as a PNG image. Look for the rectangle shape with the downwards arrow on the toolbar below the preview window.

Hope this helps.

For the resolution, make sure that you don't have "fit rendered image to viewport size" enabled in the viewport toolbar.

This will force the render to be the same size as the viewport so will over-ride any manual resolution you set.

Thanks
Chris.
