Hey again All,

For those using multiple Titans, how the heck are you cooling your boxes?

We have a few boxes with (only) 2 Titans and 850w power supplies, and they are getting so hot that we're afraid they may actually melt the motherboards...! I'm totally serious.

The heat goes way up when the boxes are rendering, obviously. Of course, with render slaves, they are running 24/7. I can't even hold my hand behind those boxes. Some of them have even been shutting down they're so hot.

We've never run anything this hot before. Not only that, but seems like each slave will need it's own 15amp breaker. Yikes!

Anyone with solutions? Cheap solutions? Effective MacGuyver solutions even?

buy a desk fan and open up the case for ventilation.

I saw some water cooling blocks for Titans but they are pricey.

could You post exact model of You case? might get sime ideas then.

Titan TDP - 250W, it is hot, but not as 480, 590, 580..pluss software should throttle down to keep card ~80 degrees, unless You changed something =)

easiest way is to provide enough airflow with aditional fans, go open-air, simply leaving part of you slave naked, or.. tuning it down to particular temperature target..- I believe if You can raise it, there should be a possibility to lower it down too..

last, but not least (neither cheep=), is go watercooled way - then You could expect card runing around 40C even with overclock =) if You have enough radiators =)

I went the water cooled route, with just one titan. Watercooling is the only way but its risky. The type of Antifreeze made for computers probably don't go higher that 40 degrees. Best bet would be to get a professional to access the reason its getting so hot..

My two Titans get not hotter than 82°C and we have 34°C outside temp here at the moment in summer.
What you really can do as cheapest and easiest way is to sownload the EVGA overclocking tools (they work with every vendor) and raise the fan manually to full.
It gets really loud but you instantly cool down the cards by 5-7°C. Plus teh cards auto-clock a bit higher and your rendertime drops a bit as a nice side-effect.

I use this method some times. Works nice. All in all I really love the sound and temps of my two Titans compared to my old 580 cards. On full fan load Titans are not louder as the old 580 cards.

Will definitely start with this route and see what happens before anything too radical....for now =).

Speaking of radical, get this; I had a professional tech guy come in yesterday to assess our farm and cooling issues. He told me the most radical solution they had done in the past was to open up all the boxes and keep them in a (i'm not joking about this part) standard horizontal basement freezer filled with chilled mineral oil. MINERAL OIL. He said it works like a charm, since the mineral oil doesn't freeze and is zero conductive. He was dead serious. Wow.

Isn't that crazy!? So crazy, it's got to work....
