This brings back memories. Daz and the ever quest to create awesome renders. I have always loved DAZ but moved to poser coz of Firefly, the Octane came out and I got the Plugin. Worked a couple of months on getting the SSS working the way I Like it and now I have 3 defferent SSS material tipes. Would have loved to play with the DAZ plugin. for those that struggle with SSS maybe you could find similarities in the node structures I used in the poser plugin. Check the topic
http://render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=45&t=30867 and let me know at
[email protected] if you require any assistance.

Hi Witpapier,
Thanks for your work and finding.
I have played with SSS in DAZ plugin using adviced blog from face_off, but I have not insist much. But now that I would like to make a realistic render of one of my CG character, I need to re-read your topic again (you and chopper make plenty of tests).
Here an preview of my test (non SSS yet), and need to rework on clothing, hand posing,DOF and lighting (only HRDI from octane preset here), need to make some mesh lights.
I think that I will need your help soon !

That looks really good. I am working on a SSS skin where i make use of a transparency map and a modified Specular map. to get rid of the glossy waxy look but too still have it there where it matters. Lemme know if I can Help.

Hi,
@t_3, how can I apply these *.poc file from Witpapier on DAZ plugin ?
Could I test it with demo poser plugin ? and then do manually with DAZ ?
thanks

Hello,
I am also looking into this. Is there a previous tread about this for the DAZ plugin?
There is a bunch of good background in the poser plugin tread. Is there a way to check the node setups in the .poc files posted there when you don't have poser + octane plugin?
Are the DAZ models treated as a solid volume in Octane so that you get sss through fingers, ears etc?

What are the main differences between RED-X SSS, REDSPEC and SUPERSPEC?
I can see the differences in the preview images for the different sub-versions of REDSPEC for example (mainly different spec levels), but between the 3 different types I can't really tell.

The pics dont show it that well. The redspec is my first work, I got a really good sss effect, the 2.0 2.5 and 3.0 is all about the different spec levels, just made it easier than adjusting every material on its own each time. Then I played around with realism and evolved it to superspec with a slight different approach. the main issue with the sss was that by increasing sss you lose some of the texture contrast. so I played with sss to try and get a skin texture that has the closest and correct bump and color, on the diffuse texture and the specularity while also having a more realistic sss effect, by using a transparency map configuration. and RED-x was born, you also have a glossy and much less more real glossy version. I realy like the RED-X sss versions, as they are exactly what I wanted and the tend to render a bit faster than the redspec ones. The Redspec is quite popular tho as I got a lot of compliments on it. especialy 2.5. I really like playing with sss, actually more than I do the actual rendering itself

and it makes it a lot easier just to load it than doing everything from scratch.

and as always Im open to suggestions.

Ok, thanks!
Have you had any luck doing a more waxy/cartoony skin with SSS? More along the lines of what you see in most Poser SSS renders or like this
http://fav.me/d658ya2? I'm trying to do a less realistic and more cartoon/anime looking character, a bit like that link, and I'm having no luck at all getting something like that in Octane.
This is my latest realistic skin material, which was originally based off you work
http://fav.me/d5y76or, but has become quite a bit more complicated. I've just recently added a bit of a velvet effect to it like you can in 3Delight & Lux to help simulate fine body hair, or surface fuzz as Lux calls it. So thank you for setting me on the right path with regards to skin materials!
