daylight shadow transparency with matte

I've been playing with matte option for shadows and it works really good. It seems to work best with HDR images. But my main question is will it be possible to work the daylight system. At the moment they pass over full black shadows and yes, I can reduce opacity in a post/image application but it seems that it misses the contact shadows between the object and ground surface.
Thanks

My Daylight shadows also look like if they are just made with "alphatest". Very harsh and sharp edges. I change the color of the matte-material a bit but it really doesn't help much.

I understand that why HDR images are the best source to use matte shadows because they also come with reflections to use with shiny materials to accurately reflect the environment around and that they faithfully reproduce shadows at the time of shoot. It would still be a great option to use daylight system shadows properly as a fast option when compositing 3d in live action.
