This is the recommended thread for downloading, and posting any questions, suggestions or support queries for OctaneRender for ArchiCAD, build 1.20a (TEST RELEASE). This version is compiled against Octane 1.20, so see the requirements for that build regarding compatibility with your video card.

If you have a support issue, pls provide the following information:
- Operating System (ie. Win XP, Vista, 7, 8)
- 32 or 64 bit
- Amount of RAM
- Graphics Card(s) - model (ie. GTX 580, 3GB)
- Nvidia driver version
- ArchiCAD version (ArchiCAD -> Help -> License Information -> Version and Build Number
- OctaneRender for ArchiCAD version (ie. 1.02a)
- In the unlikely event of a crash, pls provide the dump report from the C:\Users\[username]\Graphisoft\BugReporting-[version] folder (on Win 7). Either post or email (to "paul at physicalc-consulting.com") the "ArchiCAD-XXXXXX-FATAL.RPT" file from this folder.

Change Log from release 1.17a
- Built against Octane 1.20
- New deep channel kernel render type
- Fix issue where number of meshes and number of vertices was not being reported correctly
- The "emission" pin on a "scattering" node can now be disconnected if needed
- The last image texturemap folder is now remembered (for the current session) and used as the default when loading new image, alphaimage and floatimage texturemaps.
- Support for AC14 now removed

Hi Paul,

When assigning proxies to some AC objects I noticed that
1) I can copy an AC object that has a proxy, but
2) I Cannot assign the same OBJ to another 'empty' (has no proxy yet) AC object.

Nothing wrong here, but just noticed when trying to do 2) and that looked fine, but I noticed the proxy was not saved to the pln when opening it again. And I had a few quick AC quits,
and probably due to the way of working 2) which I will not try again ;)

Justed wanted to let know that you have to follow workflow 1) and copy the AC with a proxy or assign an OBJ that has not been assigned yet when using a new 'empty' AC object.

greetings,

Jeroen

I will investigate this in the next day or so Jeroen. Thanks for the report.

Hi Paul,

I just noticed a problem with a texture which was originally bigger than 1000 meters.
The "scale" field of the texture accepts only values down to 0.00100 - i can't go lower.
Would it be possible to increase the scale down to 0.0001 ?

Another problem with a certain project; I reduced already my materials as far as I could
(no CUDA errors meanwhile) - but still: "The plugin has capacity for scenes with up to 10.000 materials".
There are some elements in the whole scene - but 10.000 ?! GDL-problem ?!?
I can mail it if you want check it of course,
The point is: I have to animate something now and it doesn't at all because of the error...

Many thanks in advance & greetings,
Artur

Hi Artur. The scale lower limit is set by Octane, so cannot be changed. When you have a very large area (ie > 1 square kilometre) covered by one untiled texturemap, AC is providing tiled UV's, so Octane needs a very very small scale to untile them. It seems 1 square kilometre is the limit which Octane can untile. You will either need split the large area into multiple meshes and assign them different texturemaps, or scale the whole scene down so the large area is not as large (in absolutely distance). Octane uses metres are units, so if you have 1000m x 1000m, Octane will get UV coordinates of 1000 x 1000, is it will need a scale of 0.001 in order to get them back to 1 x 1 (so there is no tiling). Alternatively, I could add a UV scale parameter - however that would scale all UV's in the scene, so is going to mean all other UV scales would be wrong and would need to be changed (not a good option).

Could you send me the scene pls? Something is using up all the material slots - I will check it out.

Excellent video. Have you tried using After Effects to introduce motion blur yet?

Also Artur - the plugin Configuration option to scale the scene only scales the vertex positions, not the UV's. The scene scaling would need to occur in ArchiCAD.

Hi Paul,

thanks for the infos about mapping and what's behind.
I used a map on a terrain crated with the mesh tool. When I import a terrain from GoogleEarth (in Archicad a GDL-object then)
the problem doesn't appear, even 10km x 8km are shown correctly in Octane viewport - could be a workaround...

10.000+ materials: I've send you a mail where you can download the project with the

Thanks :)
I have not tryied that yet (have no AE) but next time I'll increase the frame rate to 25 fps, here it was only 15.

Greetings,
Artur

Hi Artur

Thanks for sending the scene through. The current material limit is 1000 (not 10000 as the message indicates). For some reason some of the GDL materials are being saved multiple times - which is causing the limit to be filled. You have 367 individual materials in the scene, but there are some materials which belong to scene elements which have since been deleted. And some materials have been saved multiple times. I will address both these issues over the next week, however in the meantime, to get you back up and running, I've updated the AC17 plugin download link at the top of this thread to have a maximum of 2000 materials.
