Hello,

I know this may sound like a trivial question, but I would like to use some custom SSS Maps with my characters. Where do I add them in the Scattering node.

Hello,

Difficult to give an unique answer. Maps are so different between packages...

Normally, the colored map of SSS with red tone should go to the Transmission node of the diffuse material. But sometimes SSS maps are in grayscale then you have to add red color on the power parameter or with a Color correction node. Anyway, the transmission node define the color of the translucidity, then It should be at minimal completely red in this case.

The map of translucidity should go to the scattering node of the medium. It defines the variations of translucidity on the body. This map is very important if you don't want to have a result like the translucidity of a candle. This map don't have to be very precise, it helps to limit scattering in the main zones like nose, fingers, hear,... The TL map of V5Bree gives good results for me.

I hope this will help you...
