Hey there,

I'm trying to replicate this effect http://render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic. ... +Generator in the cinema 4D version of octane. It doesn't seem to work, all parameters should be identical. Is there a limitation?

Thanks

To specify: In the standalone, I can plug a texture (eg turbulence) in the Scattering Port of the SSS medium, and if you put the raystepping to a very low value, it comes out as volumetric. in Cinema, when I plug a turbulence (or any other texture) in the scattering port nothing happens.

hi, this is no more possible from octane 1.11, the plugin is build with the new sdk, so is not possible also with c4d, sorry.

Standalone version is 1.10
Cinema File is attached.

In a nutshell - turbulence textures in the scattering port and a very low raystep produce a volume-like effect in the standalone. In Cinema it just shows nothing.

Thanks!

ok, surely i should be more specific, octane version 1.11 has introduced big changing in the sss field, now is possible to render fog and god rays but , as a side effect, it's no more possible to use volumetric shaders in sss slot:
Improved direct light calculation in SSS materials - as a side effect volumetric noises don't work anymore
as i alredy said, the integrated plugin is build with the 1.11 sdk, so no more volumetric sss but fog ;)

Hey Beppe,

Thanks so much for your fast answer! Well, a pity, but fog is nice, too.
Another question: Where do I find the 'fake shadow' option in the Cinema Specular Material?

Thanks!

Hey Aoktar,

Thanks for your answer. Although, in my Cinema 4D, there is no tab 'fake shadows' to be found.
Is it inside of the specular material?

Is it possible that the switch is called 'alpha shadows' - that would be in the render settings - is that the same thing?

Thanks,

::mate::

Fake shadows is in specular materials. it can be used for speedup calculation and useful for volume fogs or architectural glass.
Alpha shadow is option of kernels. To activate transparency in shadows
