is this a 16 bit normal map?
Octane has problems with NM greater then 8 bit.
So if so, convert it to 8 bit p/channel.

Hi,

I can't quite reproduce the problem with that map. How big (in MB) is the original 4kx4k map seen in the screenshot?
Can you email it to chris.rauch @ otoy.com?

Also, try reducing the power of the map in octane, or tweaking the map when you create it (not sure how you are doing it?). Something might be off.

Thanks
Chris.
