Suggestion: Lock Camera

I searched and didn't see this mentioned. If it has been, well, feel free to flame me (and/or delete this thread).
One issue I find is that I'd like to zoom out of an image that is too large to fit in the box (a desktop background render, for instance) and I use CTRL + Scroll. But if I accidentally let go of control, or if my click wheel gets bumped, or anything for that matter, the render starts completely over.
Suggestion: Add a single button in the viewport that locks the camera. Then you could pan, zoom, etc. without using control. You would still be able to set materials and such but anything having to do with navigating in 3D space around the model would be locked.
