We've had discussions with the Foundry about this, but there apparently is not a mature API we can use for this at the moment. As soon as that is available, this can move forward.

As you say Rushes. Maxwell get inside MODO without any problem. So why not Octane?

I haven't used the Maxwell in Modo - but there could be some substantial differences between it and any potential Octane plugin. For instance, does the Maxwell plugin host a live window, where when you change camera or geometry in the Modo scene, those changes instantly propagate to the Maxwell veiwport? My guess (and it's a guess) is No. The ability for Octane plugins to shows scene changes in a "live" manner require a lot from the host API.

Also, from what I have seen, Maxwell has a reasonably simple material definition system, whereas Octane has a free-form node system where you have a lot of flexibility. The node layout requires a mature and complete host API in order to be able to graphically represents the nodes, and to be able to save them to the scene. And the Modo API may not provide that.

octane for modo will never be integrated as well as the default render engine. Modo render engine is also a lot more mature.

Though modo's render engine is very nice but there are some subtle differences in Octane's daylight engine that make seem more realistic. I hope we can see a plug in soon.

Modo render engine doesn't have glare effects etc. and Octane is also more realistic so I'm lookin forward to see Octane render (live plugin hopefully) in action. Modos animation tools + particles + Octane Render live plugin =
