please use this thread to post problems with the installation;
i.e. everything that happens until you can open the octane viewport for the 1st time.

this post will be extended to cover known problems...
  • It might be needed to turn off AV protection until the installation is done.
the installer uses a virtual machine in order to be a self contained .exe for a more simple program, that unpacks all the stuff from a virtual file system. this strategy makes it also possible to do database updates or even scene file updates in the future, if an update would require such things. might look suspicious to some av engines if a downloaded file tries to start a virtual machine.
and please, if needed, turn your AV protection off (or allow it for that specific file) just and only for the installation process - it is definitely not needed to dump AV protection in order to run the plugin itself!

I just bought and installed the plugin but something's wrong...
No plugin in the "plugins folrder ( but one Octane.dll + Octane.dat in the root folder ).

I'm supposed to also activate the plugin but I can't find Octane Live on my computer ( I activated Octane from the program itself ).

Both Octane and Studio are installed on my J:/ drive ( internal SSD ).

hi joelgegecko,
first off: thanks for buying the plugin!

now about the problem: can you please check, if there is an "OctaneRender" folder in your home directory... are you using windows vista/7/8? if so, you could paste that string into the windows explorer addressbar, and it should put you right there: %HOMEPATH% - if there is a subfolder "OctaneRender", you should find a file called "install.log" there - please Zip it, and send me a pm with this file attached.

meanwhile you can check the plugins dir in the daz studio root - the plugin should install itself into a subfolder, also called "OctaneRender", means J:\...\DAZ Studio4\plugins\OctaneRender

another thing that should be there is an OctaneACM.exe in the daz studio root dir - this one should start after a successful installation and will manage activation (and can also be called right from the plugin later on.

looking forward to get you working soon :)

Thanks for your fast reply !

I used the "unpack" option when trying to re-install and moved the files manually to the right folders ( the plugin file was among the uncompressed files ).

Sent you the log. But as we speak, it looks like everything's working fine now ;)

I have some trouble with activating OctaneRender in WIndows 7 x64. I am using two systems on my computer - Windows 7 and XP. After purchase of licence I received pairs of names and passwords.
I succesfully activate renderer in both systems. But Windows 7 is better for graphic software.
Now I cannot run renderer in this OS. Information in the popup window ask about name and password.
None of received pairs works. In my account page I have info about one activated copy - this in Windows XP, and no more codes is visible like few days ago.
How should I activate renderer in Windows 7 again?
Tomasz

As far as i konw, one license can be used only on one computer at the time. in order to use it on another machine, you need do deactivate it first from the machine where it works, wait an hour, and then activate it there where you want it, some other machine/os/computer.
hope this helps

I am also having an installation issue... Windows 7 x64, with MSE turned off running the installer as admin. I'm getting to the second install screen when clicking next and then the installer just quits... no error, no OctaneRender subfolder in my home folder, nothing...

Re: Katura

Thanks. I suppose this were licensing system error. I disabled account for Windows XP and activated in Windows 7. Yes, it work. But there is another question - why user cannot use 32-bit and 64-bit version like another software, for example Adobe Photoshop CS5 (or CS6)? I have installed and activated both versions.

have you started the installer with "right click > run as administrator"? this might help. another thing might be to lower the windows UAC settings for the time of the installation.

if nothing helps, please send me a pm with a copy of a log file from DS (go to "help > troubleshooting > view log file" and save it somewhere) - this will help me to identify if the installer has a problem with the particular installation or location of DS....
