Is it possible to animate a material's opacity?

I posted this earlier in the wrong forum so I apologize for the double post.

I have ran into a wall when trying to animate a material's opacity. I am using the Maya plug in and it seems that the opacity value of an Octane material can not be key framed. My scene involves piping going from opaque to semi transparent in order to show water flowing. Any suggestions?

The direct slider is not keyable, but if you use an octaneFloatTexture (Link Outtext to opacity of the octaneMaterial) with an greyscale value, you can key this color value and with that the opacity.
