Playing with Zbrush.
It's like umber hulks from DnD, or maybe very little resembling garthims from Dark Crystal.
No post, except for Octane glare.

LOVE IT!!!
beautiful texturing and ZBrush work.
I love the background too, works really well. My only crit is the eyes, or the 3 black spheres on the side of the head that I think are eyes. It looks like you just put 3 spheres on the side instead of sculpting a cavity to place them in. Normally it would be minor, but it is noticeable because of the level of detail with everything else.

Thanks!
Thought of eyes too. Eyes was added after all sculpting, its my laziness). First i thought to make them as spots on head texture, like it is semi-blind.

This looks really good! great modelling and rendering!
- i agree with Kavorka about the eyes - looks a bit stuck on atm.

Thanks!
I will pay attention next time. Ice seemed to be weakest point.

That looks pretty cool. Yeah if you can get some real looking ice there with some depth and more motivated cracks to it that would be really sweet.
Amazing image

Thanks, Carl!
First i tried to make them as subsurface geometry, but it turns very heavy to render and difficult to set materials plausible.

using the new fake shadows in spec material may help you to get better looking ice.
I think using ZBrush and really roughing up the surface of the ice will help to get that look you want. Probably have to use the normals more heavily than real geometry if your scene is getting too large though.

Sorry, not a mental/v-ray user, only modo.
I've been misleadingly said about ice. I wanted to make something like huge frozen lake cracks underneath.
Environment geometry was made to match previously set lighting. So thats how this beetle found himself on ice), just to fit floor reflections.
