Hi! I would like to buy a new gpu to use with Octane.
The idea is to make photorealistic 3d renders to integrate with real photos.. so I dont think I would use it for animation.

With the new titan with 6gb of vram there are more options so.. which card do you recommend? 1x titan? 2x680? 1x590? ?????
I already have a gtx 570 so the new one will be only for Octane.

low on budget - 670 /4gigs of vram, more textures for Kepler, compared to Fermi does help..
for bigger budget ..one or even two titans - 6gb will make more sence if You're working with big scenes,
+ good temps, lownoise and all other advantages of Kepler line mentioned before.

Hi, I have a GTX580 and I want to add to it a second card for Octane at least as good as the 580 and compatible with it and my motherboard which is P8Z68 -V Pro Asus and working well in Octane with no problem.
It will be used for CG animations, architectural visualization particularly.
Between 500 and 1000 $ around
I looked at several threads on this forum and I see GTX 690, Titan, 590 often quoted. Which one best suits my needs ? I'm a newbie in this.

depends on scene size number of textures and budget. If budget doesn't matter a Titan sounds good.

Hi, Naudorf. Basicly there are two main aspects speed & available vram. 590 - was /maybe still is/ the fastest dual slot graphic card made up 'gluing two underclocked 580' - it has 3gb of vram, but because it's made by two units Octane sees as 2x1.5gb - so, not that much.

if 590 is dual card based on Fermi architecture, then 690 is almost the same, but based on curent Kepler architecture. In addition to this new architecture, that brings bettter temperatures under load & it has 2x2gb of available vRam.

Speed wise, 590 is a bit faster than 690, but..the new octane build actually brought speed up for new Keplers (6xx) and some slowdowns for Fermi (5xx) cards..so with future tweeks Fermi might take a lead.

Titan is the new card from nVidia based on Kepler architecture with gk110 chip that sits in very expensive Tesla K20 (K20X). with some functionality croped it provides very good performance and has available 6gb of vRam. It is priced the same as 690 & is a bit slower, but You get that extra vRam.

one more thing to mention is texture count: Keplers has a bit more than Fermi based cards (don't remember exact numbers).

so, let's sumarise everything.

If You're looking for investment for what You've mentioned - arch scenes might take a lot of space, if You do detail stuff. More textures on Keplers helps too..

Your budget is .5-1k -> I would take Titan.

One more advantage to this card if You compare it to 590/690 is that You get all hot air blown out from case & that leaves better temperatures in case..what leads to more efficient cooling of other cards or CPU.

Please read forum a bit more =) all this is covered in several places at least =) so just press button almost on top left that says ''Active threads" And look true, before posting new threads =) You might find answer faster than someOne is going to write You answer to ''another similar thread"

p.s. If You get 6GB Titan card - upgrade Your Ram, 'cos it will get as a bottle-neck =) for some proceses in Octane You need a lot of Ram, I've just noticed You have ''Only" 16Gb..
