poser/ dynamic hair and octane render

Hi,
I would like to know if some licensed customers can make some test with poser dynamic hairs.
It seems that octane doesn't render very well the poser dynamic hair (mesh problem, slow render ect...)
Thanks

If you send me the hair prop, I'll see what I can do with it. "slow render" is probably a function of the large amount of geometry in there. As I've said previously, the results people have been getting with transmapped hair has been superb, so it's the recommended method for rendering hair.

I use this one:

But you can make test with a "ball of hair" or anything else ;)

I've just done some rendering with this prop. It comes down to how the hair simulation calculation places the hair. If all the hair is clumped together (strands on top of each other), the Octane render gets caught up in the hair, and the performance is slow. This is exactly the same situation you have if you render dynamic hair in Poser (Firefly) with IBL turned on, and the shadows on for the hair prop - your PC will grind away for days.

Some tips for that particular hair prop:
1) Reduce the hair density to the minimum (I used 100, but that is probably too low).
2) Increase the Verts per Hair (I used 50)
3) The Octane Material for the hair will be glossy, diffuse=RGB (Red=5, Green=5, Blue=5), specular=RGB (Red=8, Green=6, Blue=4), roughness=0.1, filmwidth=0.5, opacity=0.5, index=0.
4) Set the opacity of the scalp material to 0
5) You have to drop the "kernel"->"maxdepth" to about 3 - which in itself reduces the realism of your render :-\
6) Have a /lot/ of cuda cores

But again, I'm not sure why you would do this when the transmapped hair renders so much better.....

Hi, you need to ad a gradient Node to the opacity channel, that should fix it. Or create a custom hair mask and put it in the opacity channel. The first looks better unless you after dreadlocks or so.
