normal pass and scatter node

I am interested in those two features. Could somebody clear a couple things please:
1. The normal pass render ignores completely any bump/normal map on materials. Is it right or am I missing something?
2. Should I have some 3d party soft to use scatter node? What is file load button for in the node? How can I scatter all that nice grass and trees in Octane pictures?

... a plugin of your 3D software should be able to generate a .csv file that defines the position/scale/rotation of all the instances of selected objects.
This .csv file has to be loaded in the scatter node.
There is a script for Blender, but I don't know the tools for other 3D packages.
Typing your config in your signature would help users to help you. What is your 3D soft ?

Here it is\ in the signature. Should I use hairs in Blender to scatter objects? If I am not wrong there is no option to rotate randomly the hair mesh in Blender?

There is a check box for rotation in the hair particle system (advanced).
Currently, I have a problem : tested with Blender 2.63a and 2.65.10 : the scatter script doesn't work for a particle system. It generates the csv file, but this csv is invalid and produces nothing in the render.
I also encountered a GPU failure (GPU 1 fail and GPU2 fail successively) several times while attempting to use this invalid scatter file !
An other thing, maybe related to my amount of system RAM (8GB only), but I doubt : I have never been able to convert more than 10000 particles at a time, and often less with the Convert button of the particle modifier. Blender seems to enter in a loop and shows a rotating cursor alternatively with the arrow cursor.
I reported this a very long time ago to the Blender bugtracker, and this trouble is still present in 2.66 test build 1 (2.65.10).

Thanks for the info. I would like to test it om my end . Where can I find the last blender script and plugin? The one I tested couple years ago was for Blender 2.4 Looks like it's all the same currently in the plugin section. Cant find the export plugin for Max 2008 too now. ( misplaced it somewhere when reinstalled the system)
