How could I render this?

I'm doing a project in school and I would like to put this sort of crystal look into my render. Sculpting it isn't a big deal for me and shouldn't be that hard to do. But I'm unsure as to how I could get this crystal effect. Any ideas or suggestions?

PS: Using zbrush to sculpt and blender as my program. So not using any plugin at the moment

also how would I get this crystal look:

The second one would be a lot easier.
Crystals have a good amount of sub surface scattering, so you really need to run tests with that.
Try and get a pretty rough surface out of Z brush when doing the testing, it will make a big difference. Lots of little cracks and tiny divets, ect.

Besides that, I'm not really sure. You could get a good high quality pic to use as the texture and maybe use it as a mix amount for a material with more absorbtion to get those darker blackish areas.
Look up to IOR of the mineral online, and use that too. Should give you a better, more realistic look.

Thanks for the tips, I figured the second one wouldn't be so hard to get a similar render as well and already sculpted it before I posted. Glad to know I was right XD

The first one has a lot of different colours, would I use a diffuse map? Same with the second one? It has different blues in it... Or does Sub-surf kinda solve that for me? I've never used it before.

hmm, there is a thin film coating in glossy mats that can kinda give you a rainbow like shine, maybe test that?

huh okay thanks, having second thoughts about doing the opal now >.> Might do something ellllssseeee..... Thanks for the help though. I'll just find a different rock to make.

If anyone else has any idea how I could get this render effect let me know! I'm curious if it's possible to pull off well. In Octane anyway.

SSS + (Specular+Filmwidth)+mix.
card of transparency of effect specular. The effect of specular is not identical. It is necessary to try, experiment
