Mac Crash Issue

Hello.

Almost the weekend, hour to myself so i'm giving Octane a try.

I'm running a fairly high end mac with a 1gb of Nvidia packed inside, not the best Nvidia.. but it'll do for now.

Octane loads fine, i then load an obj.. (tried the test scenes too with the same result) OBJ loads ok, i click the OBJ in the editor and it crashes, just shuts down in a blink of an eye.

Just wondering whether this has anything to do with the current 10.6.4 os x and Nvidia Cuda problem? and require a fix from either Apple or Nvidia? or is it possibly another issue i'm not seeing?

Thanks for your help

Glenn

Hi,

You need to install the cuda 3.0 drivers for mac os, the cuda 3.0 toolkit for mac os, the XCode package from your OSX installation CD.
The 2 packages, eg the drivers and the toolkit are here:
http://developer.nvidia.com/object/cuda ... loads.html

and if you're on 10.5 (leopard) also the XQuartz distribution which is linked to on our downloads page.

This is only for Mac OS X, PC users don't need to install anything other than the latest drivers.

I remember someone having troubles with 10.6.4 and CUDA 3.0 (they were addressed with the 3.1 update)... might this be your problem?

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the replies. All drivers including CUDA 3 already installed + the toolkit. Just installing the XCode as suggested.
Octane on the surface loads up only when OBJ selected that it crashes.

There wasn't any error messages on crash, just disappears.

Heres a screen vid of what happens http://droplr.com/1npcd

Thanks

that's very strange.

i just recorded a tutorial video for our tutorial videos page.
i did the following in the exact order:

* fresh/clean install of OSX 10.6.4 from accompanying OSX CD with a 2010 (new) mac mini (it has a Geforce 320M with 256MB Vram)
* installed 'Developer Drivers for MacOS' from cuda 3.0 downloads page (download link in the Mac OS chapter at the bottom of page: http://developer.nvidia.com/object/cuda ... loads.html
eg: http://developer.download.nvidia.com/co ... _macos.dmg
* installed 'CUDA Toolkit' from cuda 3.0 downloads page, just below the previous driver.
eg: http://www.nvidia.com/object/thankyou.h ... cos_32.pkg
* downloaded and installed the octane 2.2 demo pkg from our downloads page
* downloaded and unzipped the demosuite scene
* fired up octane and opened the chess set scene with textures from the demo suite, works fine.

Works like a charm. Snow Leopard 10.6.4
All installations i did the defaults, eg no special folders or anything, just always all defaults in the packages/installers.
The video tutorial will be voiced over by phil and put online in a few days.

So i'm guessing you have one of the things above not correctly installed.

thanks for your time, unfortunately don't have the time to re-install OS X.

Back to Vray in time for Siggraph..

Have a nice weekend

you should not have to reinstall your OS, just reinstall the cuda packages in the right order.
