I know this is very elementary stuff for most of the artists on this forum.
It is still cool, and I haven't seen and animated one posted yet.

very nice, can you explain more about how you made it?
it's been a while i've used blender for anything other than testing exports and checking models,
so i'm not aware of the latest cutting edge stuff like physics engines / particly systems, etc in blender. ;)

In Blender, I created a particle emitter. Then I substituted a cube instead of having it render particles. Using the emitter as a center-point, I created 3 vortex empties, to control the particle movement and a harmonic empty to bind it together, so particles don't go flying off the screen, but continue to churn near the origin. It took a while to get the "math" to work out right and generate a satisfactory result.
Then I used the export script from blender to octane, rendering at a fantastic 10 seconds per frame. (not including stopping and restarting the render because of the possible memory leak)
That, of course, results in a pile of still images.
I put those stills back into blender, and re-rendered the scene, using the z values and vector blurring to alter the original images. After compositing you have finished renders with motion blur. (I'm pretty sure this technique is well known, however, I had just figured it out!)
I used blender to organize them into an AVI movie and then uploaded.

thanks for sharing ;)
enrico is looking into the memory leak issue with the blender script.
