Octane Shuts down computer when rendering w/ multiple cards

Well. finally got my asrock z77 extreme9 and have been looking forward to running all of my video cards with Octane. It runs fine with one card but if I choose render with 2 or 3 cards it immediately shuts down the computer once it begins rendering. I am wondering if any of you who are using multiple card setups have experienced anything like this.

I am not using SLI

I am using the slots recommended for 3 cards by Asrock

Any help would be appreciated

What kind of power supply do you have?
An instant-off is usually the power supply throwing up it's hands in defeat. (but not always!)

Thanks
Chris.

I am using the Apevia ATX-WA1100W WARLOCK POWER 1100W Power Supply so I dont think that is the problem. Right now it wont even work with 2 cards which is only around 500 watts. I also used this same Power supply with 3 cards with my old mobo. and Octane.

I dont know where else to turn as I think this forum is the only knowledge base for GPU probs with Octane, so if anyone has some suggestions let me know I have hit a wall and dont know what else to do but send this mobo. back and maybe buy a Sniper mobo.

Thanks buzby, yeah that sounds like it should do it.
Have you looked for updated firmware for the motherboard? And also tried a clean install of the latest NVIDIA drivers? (you need to select custom in the installer and then there is a tickbox for clean install). I'm clutching at straws here but it's worth a mention.

Thanks
Chris.

Yes I am a computer builder for years and can usually fix it all but because Octane is unique and not well documented I need experience from other users.

I updated to the latest Bios and have the latest Nvidia drivers, this is a brand new load of Windows 7. - I have no explanation for why this might happen.

It would be interesting to see if this problem is triggered only by octane, or if it's wider. If you could connect the cards with an SLI cable and try a game that will use all three cards this would be an interesting test.

try to look for some software that OCers use to test stability after they push their rigs..
smth like furMark? in combination with prime95 or similar to see how Your system cope with the load.

Maybe 1 pci-e slot is faulty.

Thank you all for your suggestions,

I have so far tried all the different slot combinations with 2 cards - CRASH

I tried both nvidia drivers .70 and .90 - CRASH

Hooked up the sli and enabled it and ran furmark burn in test - NO CRASH

I am going to download a game and run in SLI but I dont have a lot of hope on this as it seems like it is only Octane at this point.

It is a shame, I researched how to use Octane to build the most optimal set up over a month and dropped close to 2 grand in upgrades to use Octane to render and it is the one thing the computer wont do!

Just curious, why do you suggest this, is it a known issue?
