Hi Octane Team

What is the different between Octane and iray 2.0 by mentalimage?

Iray is also a physical renderer like Octane, but Does it uses the same teqniue and has the same quality performance? Speed comparsion?

Please let me know. (Or if anyone at this forum knows the answer, I would be happy)

/Johan

I know that Mental has implementing a sort of pmc in the iray kernel.
In the world there are few artists that use iray. If you look at Deltatracing I think they produce incredible renders.

The iray path tracing is faster than the Octane one but Octane has a powerful render algorithm called pmc and now tons of features that you can't find in iray, vray-rt and Arion.

Hi

What is "pmc" and "kernel" ? Some sort of driver?

I have the card GTX 690, Which would be Fastest for me? IRay or Octane? I`m rendering diamond, and need Fast dispersion transparents.

Thanks.

Hi Razorsbhc,

Please refer to the manual that should be in the octane folder (usually c:\program files\OTOY\OctaneRender 1.0\ or similar).
PMC is a type of rendering kernel.
Octane has 4 different rendering kernels: direct lighting, Patch Tracing, PMC and deep channel.

Thanks
Chris.
