Assigning materials within Octane

Hi,

Still playing around with demo 1.022.b22. I have a model with textures that I have imported from Viz 2008 via the gw:obj exporter. I fully understand that the workflow is to create all your materials in the modelling host program and tweak them in Octane. However, whilst playing around with the model I decided to replace some clear glazed windows with frosted glazing. So I created a new material in Octane and linked it, via the nodes, to the relevant glass that I am trying to change. So far so good. The problem arose when I decided that I preferred the clear glass option. When I 'unlink' the new material from the model, the original material no longer exists! Have I done something wrong? I would have thought that the original material would be retained in case it is required again (as an option).

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Regards,

M

nope, once you overwrite a node, the previous one disappears, you can however make another floating node for the other material, that way linking and unlinking to see different results.
I think in the next version we will be able to expand nodes then you could expand to a floating node the base one, unlink it and link the new one, or save the original material (saving materials is suppoused to be suported in 2.3 also)
