Train Path

I have been meaning to start creating an entry for the animation competition, a week or so ago I began creating a marble track of sorts and soon realized that I have no interest in creating such a thing at the moment. So I turned to my brother and we came up with this concept.

A train drives on through the railway, a crane operated by an "evil" capsule drops a crate loaded with marbles onto the track. The train then enters a station only to find more trouble. I am still yet to work out what exactly will happen but it's basically a good physics exercise for me. Plus this animation will have the most advanced models I have created ever (though my standard is very low :P).

This is still very early, it still hasn't seen very much texture work as of yet and the scene will be far more decorated (hopefully) before the deadline.

Overall the scene is fairly low-poly, however the marbles take up around 700k poly's, leading to total to be 788160 tri's. The close-up image rendered for 2 minutes and the other took 1 minute.

you've got a lot of balls ! ;)

nice concept, good luck with the timing, the submission dead-line is close for our comp, you've got about 6 days left ;)

I have made some very slow progress, yesterday I didn't work on it at all. So that isn't really helping my chances of finishing it in time but nevertheless here is a new render.

When I was going to create the counterweights for the crane I didn't just want to create concrete blocks. So instead I created a partially destroyed house that the capsules somehow tied to the crane. Backstory :P

cool, you've still got some time left, just make sure you calculate a decent amount of samples/px for your final animation.
maybe also try to create a more interesting environment, the sunlight is quite hard / contrasty.

It seems that I won't be able to finish it in time. Maybe I will continue working on it later, but right now I have got to have a break. The reason why I am so slack on progress is because I have RSI. I only allowed myself a few hours a day and even at that it wasn't enjoyable for me.

Thank you Radiance for your comments nevertheless.

maybe you can finish it at your own pace and show it to use in the near future ?

Perhaps. However by the time I finally get over it I might want to work on something new instead, though there's always the possibility and adding snippets of what I have right now into the mix.
