I usually keep quiet on forums. Usualy i just roam around, but this question is really interesting, as i would be delighted to see Octane integrated into SU.
And i really would like to ask Otoy team when it will be released, but instead i will rather ask if it will ever happen?
Is it planned at all, or SU users are minor group and therefore, will be treated as one, and ignored as democratic minority?
Thanks.

Modelling in sketchup, scattering grass and trees and leaves in Blender.
This is workflow which works pretty good, and as you know, the integration into Blender is in development
Kind regards
Alain

Why not... Sketchup is one of the most popular archviz modelling software and
the most easiest to learn.

with most easiest to learn I do agree, 'cos it's more or less like..simple text editor, but calling it most popular is way out of being true..
programers/developers are making their living creating the software for packages. probably there will be a time when SU will get a present, but I would not stress the importance of this package too much..
there is a good reason why Octane plugins were developed for max, maya..& that reason is the one You've mention mistakingly talking about SU..- these programs do have vast profesional userbase.
patience Guys. I do believe tha one day we'll see plugin edition for SU. I love that simple program too. for now the best idea is to use it as a starting point and then export your geometry elswhere..
cheers

Hi
I can see a great development of plugin (Archicad...), but nothing planned for Sketchup !?

How can you say that Glimpse

... For what I know (and I work in the architectural field for about 25 years) Sketchup is the most used architectural modelling tool. I dont only talk about pure archviz. I talk of architecture studies. It is simple in the right way, the one that gives you freedom to create. It doesnt compare to other generalistic package like 3Dmax or C4D. In the archviz field those soft are only usable at the final stage of a project when it is just about creating "nice catchy images"
So having octane right into Sketchup would be a fantastic news to me! I already use them together but this will nicely improve the workflow...and as a GPU renderer I suppose it wont be concerned by the 32bits RAM limitations of Sketchup..?

For what I know (and I work in the architectural field for about 25 years) Sketchup is the most used architectural modelling tool.
Whilst it is most certainly a popular modelling package, the ability to develop plugins for additional renderers for Sketchup is a bit more complex than for other packages. It requires a) ruby knowledge, and b) the ability to get from ruby to the Octane API, which is a non-trivial exercise. This is a similar architecture to the Poser plugin (which is python to the Octane API).
and as a GPU renderer I suppose it wont be concerned by the 32bits RAM limitations of Sketchup..?
Whilst Sketchup might be 32 bit, it would (most likely) interface to the 64 bit version of Octane. So as long as the scene geometry being sent to Octane fits within the 32 bit RAM limits (3.5'ish Gig?), it would all be OK. As a matter of interest, we've had Poser scenes which take 18Gig when transferring to Octane, so the 3.5Gig limit could be a limiting factor.
