I got the head form turbosquid and made it 'Iceman' with the DB material ICE from Elvissuperstar.
Great material Elvis.. thnx a lot!
I mixed the ice material with aluminium and tweaked it a bit to get the result I was looking for.
The setup is with a hdri and a lightcube with whiteemitter behind the cam.
This render is DL 3000spx with only 5 specdepth.
I gonna try more settings and also PMC/PT to see what results I get.
Only postproduction is a little noisereduction.
Hope you like the image event though it is quiet simple

update: top one added with 100 specdepth (still in DL)
It is not as much difference as I would expect.

This is the version with PT. I adjusted this PT render with contrast and little other stuff to make it the same look,
the rendering itself is a bit light.
I was expecting other kinds of difference maybe, but I gues this setup is not ideal to compare the different kernels.. too less going on to point out the difference
had some fun though.. I'll try other hdri and temperature emitter to see what will happen.

i don't know yet if I understand the principale of subsurface scattering when you pro's are talking about sss?
Am i correct it is only about a mixture of glossy (or specular) material and diffuse materials
that defines the way that material behaves. Or is it also about a render setting?
Anyway... I was doing this learning experiment more with trial and error to get a result I was looking for.
Elvis, thnx to your question I will try and do the sss learning experiment after watching the tt series 22 a few more times.
Greetz,
