very nice but is i said in the post (in the still competition) you should use the supersampling technique (i posted a link to it there) to get smoother AA.

The sea is very realistic and the texture of the wooden floor looks great, too.
However the texture of the pillars irritated me; especially the rectangular clipping of the brick texture is not realistic imho.
And while you are at it, I think the texture of the tables could be improved a bit (it is too uniform).

You should definitely do some more renders of your model, I think you can make it even better (and you should use the supersampling technique as radiance said).

That's just bad... no offence....

If you want some constructive criticism (it won't help much...there is not much to do there, it's incomplete scene made in few minutes )

Camera angle: You almost never see horizon in real life...and this angle doesn't even suit anything, it's unsure where did the "photographer" stood to take this, fov and dof is wrong too

Model: Not going to criticise those 20 polygons being shown so I'll leave this as it is...

Textures: The floor is just bad. It's glossy, rough...but the texture is nowhere, it's like flat plastic. There should be atleast bump, but more rather + opacity between planks, or separately modeled planks

And last, very good advice ;- ) If one can't come up with some interesting way in how to communicate his idea, then just google search some references. Find some artsy picture of sea restaurant, and do it like the photo does

I dont know, I dont think it's all that bad..

I really dont get a couple of the comments tho, like wrong FOV and not seeing horizons in real life, I have horizons in almost every picture I take in real life. FOV is your lens.. I have some pretty wide angle lenses, as well as super long one. How does one define "wrong" ?

personally I think if you changed the scale of the bricks and planks, changed the aperture of the shot it'd look fine. (I think there's a few more than 20 poly's here too, did you see the full model in another thread?)

if it were ME rendering it, I'd (going by the full model) change to a water level view looking up with a nice fat lens on it :)

Good luck with the image!

cheers

I later saw the rest of the project in full scale in Competition thread. But here he only choose to show this. It still looks just like basic sketchup model made for the sake of playing with 3d ;)

With sea horizon I am kinda lost in translation, can't describe it properly, but this is not what happens on camera in real life.

About your suggestion of view, I agree, that would be much better composition.

But I still stand by this being very bad overall, like I said...find references, either real photos, or other arch-viz (there are many to this theme), I think it's kinda arrogant to show terrible job with smile on face and just await some compliments... it's like when untalented 13 years old kid brings terrible painting to her mom, mom will say it's wonderful but in fact...it's not. I am only offering criticism, he put it up here for it ;)

Georgo,

I've been a photographer for 15+ years, worked in video production for 10+ years, and am pretty familiar with how pictures are taken :).

Your statements about the horizon sound completely strange to me. Maybe you're trying to say something else, but it's utter absurdity to say that you don't see the horizon in a real picture. Either you're saying something about it over exposing and blowing out so it's not actually seen??? or your saying that photographers don't frame with the horizon in the photo??? or something else entirely?

Maybe you're saying it hazes out from the water moisture in the air? I have no idea.

While I'm not going to say that his textures, etc... couldn't be improved ( and I wonder about the scale, because it feels like the lighting is off a bit to me, might just be the textures throwing me ), I'm still trying to figure out what you meant :).

Yeah, I am trying to come up with right words too... I might post picture examples later, don't worry about this for now ;- ) Just comment on the rest.

nice render but the pillars are weird, why put bricks on such small cylindrical pillars ? not realistic imo

The exact placement and alignment of the tables and chairs throws out the realism for me. Make placements a bit random.

With a little more work this can be a great render.
