couple of questions before i buy

hi all,
i tried out the standalone demo (unfortunately couldn't find a demo for the max plugins .. hence the questions below)
but before i buy i wanted to ask a couple of questions:
this is still an active project, right ?
i just want to make sure i don't buy something that goes away at some point
does the 3ds max plugin support all the materials of max ?
specifically the arch & design materials ?
say i apply a "chrome" material to a wheel of a car in max and then render in octane will it be a correct "chrome" material ?
how much material tweaking is required when rendering a scene in octane through the max plugin ?
say i've got the scene looking good in mentalray or finalrender and then i want to render it in octane ... are there changes necessary ?
and reversely ... say i start with a new scene and get it to look good in octane render but then want to render in mentalray or finalrender will i have to make changes to materials ?
are all changes i make save as part of the .max file ?
or is there a separate file that gets saved for the octane settings, materials, ... ?
it'd be great to hear from the experience from existing customers:
once you start using octane is that pretty much what you always use ?
or do you use it for certain scenes but not others ? indoors vs outdoors for example ?
one thing i liked with the demo was how quickly the image looks "good enough" so that i can determine if i like the lighting of the scene ... much faster than in mr or fr ... it's promising to make the lighting phase much faster
thanks for the answers
frank
