There's a long time since I didn't post anything here, but the quality of the images here are so high that I always feel a bit intimidated :?
So this is one of my recent work, that was selected 'image of the week' at RDNA. http://www.runtimedna.com/gallery/displ ... pos=-53944

I entitled it 'Birth of butterflies'

Image

The scene was composed in Daz Studio 4. For this image, I used Direct Lighting and the daylight environment. Don't ask me about render time, I let it run during the night and I didn't checked how long it took ... postwork in Gimp for resizing, compression and signature only.

Feel free to comment, keeping in mind I'm just a hobbyist ...

Models used :

Victoria 4 (Daz3D)
MRL Nieve (Mihrelle)
Wet hair (Valea)
The Minstrel (nirvy/-supernova-)
Storyteller for The Minstrel (kaleya)
Ultimate Butterfly Collection (noggin/Ajax)
The Enchanted Forest (Stonemason)

For a hobbyist you do some very solid work! :)

The tree trunk and foliage looks great! you haven't overdone the bump or specular maps on either (something a-lot of people tend to do) so big tick for the environment.

The lower part of the human figure looks ok, and the texturing of the boots and socks etc is pretty good. Its the top half of the female that lets down the image. Human topology is so freaking hard to get right, there are only a few cg-artists I know of that just get it dead-on. Areas in regards to topology that need work are her arm-pits, hands, face and torso. As said previously using PMC would improve the character as SSS could be used (but again, don't over do it!).

Also 95% of the butterflies are striking that same pose which makes it look un-natural, perhaps randomize the poses and size a bit :)

Again you have done an AWESOME job with the foliage and the log! You should post up some wireframes and settings ;) The character needs some work though.

With some labour and good post-pro the appeal of this will improve in leaps and bounds. Keep up the good work! :)

Yep, agree, nice to see something different.
Very nice atmosphere and pleasant DOF.
You really should post more work, I know you make more nice pics ...
