Could this be implemented to render displacement maps or Ptex maps in Octane or with the Maya plugin?

I came to ask the same question! Wow this look fantastic.

I think it is being rendered in real time on a GPU.

(Hmmm I think, if I remember and understand correctly) :)

There is a thread going on on CGTalk about Pixar's Open Subdivision:

gpu cc subd with ptex and displacement. Hmm.. yummy...

Even if Octane would be delayed for a few months in order to implement this, it's worth it to implement it. I bet Autodesk and other software vendors would most likely will include some, if not all, of the features available in the library. If Octane would also use this, it would make geometry preparation for rendering in Octane to be much more streamlined (and should be faster too), wouldn't it?

Since Octane already relies on the GPU calculations, I wonder if this added processing would slow down -greatly- the rendering. So maybe it would speed up things in the viewport, but the rendering I am not sure. No idea how octane works under the hood though lol.
