Look at the shares of Facebook, I don't think it has a future for serious business.
It's just a Social Network and that's it. It's useless for serious business.

This is just my opinion, I'm sure no one will confirm this ;-)

Kind regards
Alain

.. tell you what.. if facebook or social networking in general helps to produce more numbers > and the end result is more money, everyone is going to call it serious business from there on..

it is what it is, depends on how you use it, if you don't use it at all it is difficult to judge from that standpoint, or if you use it - it might bring numbers if you invest into it, the thing is, you don't know until you actually try.. for real, but this is exactly how it is with everything around us - it is not the power of the sword, it is how you use it -:)

I'm talking about facebook as a way to increase interaction among the users of octane render in an informal way, like facebook groups, something easy do talk and share.
I am from Brazil and here, the CG facebook groups are more active then CG Forum, blogs and websites. I think its a diferent way to talk in a forum and in facebook.

How would facbook offer a better debate? I mean why its better than using this forum? Here you can at-least get occasional input from developers.

Also, some of us dont (and will never) have facebook accounts.

I dont like infomrations scattered around on the net and especially data collectors like facebook. I erased my account there because of their hilarious policies like the right to sell every photo you upload in any context without your right to permit it. My business site is only there because of customer care but still thinking of archiving it too.

So a -1 from me for a facebook group.

I guess the only one useful reason to have a firm-account on Facebook is that you have (probably) a higher ranking on Google because of the popularity (->alot of visitors per timeunit) of Facebook.
I absolutly agree with mbetke and matej.

Me too. There is no better place then to discuss Octane here at the source. With facebook added like a second forum 'we' have to spread our energy and discuss things twice. Not handy.. And I agree about everything said before about policy of facebook... Not my thing... I don't see any benefit of having a second place to exchange and discuss concerning Octane.
Greetz,
