Test render and a question about samples

So I'm a brand new user (like, today) and here's my first render out of Octane. I love this renderer! Refractive, keep going!

On my meager GTS 250, at 1200px wide, this took nearly 1h30m at 5000 samples. But I actually needed more samples and had to blur a few splotchy areas in PS. Nothing major. The raw render was awesome, and looked pretty much like what you see here.

So here's my question. If I let it render out to 5000, but realize that's not enough, can I increase the number of samples and continue rendering from 5000, or will it start over? Should I just crank my samples higher than what I know I'll need, and then stop it when it's good enough?

Thanks.

Oh and another question... I'm seriously thinking about getting a GTX 470, but my PSU is only 650W. Will that be enough?

Yes. (at least, that's the only way I know...)

I think it should be ok, unless you've got 4 HDs, 2 DVDs and a couple of other graphic cards...

Great image BTW!

cheers,
A

Your PSU should be fine. I have a 650 in one system and a 550 in another and they powered it fine.
I think when you change the max samples that it starts the render over. This Forum page has some good tips that might help you with everything: http://www.refractivesoftware.com/forum ... f=21&t=878
