Hello
I have one GPU - 8800 GTS512 MB.
On motherboard i have second slot for next GPU. have i have identical second card as first (2 x 8800 GTS 512 MB) to increase speed of renderings, or i can put any Nvidia card into second slot?
How it is works? I need SLI? or just Octane software is checking slots to count how many GPU is on board?
Greetings
Hris

Nope, you can put anything in there. Look into getting one of the new gtx400 series video cards as they will blow your mind in comparison to the 8800gts. Add it to the second slot and use your 8800gts as your main display card. This allows you to use the gtx400 series card strictly for rendering purposes, which makes navigating around octane, and your OS a lot smoother. If you can afford 2 gtx400 series cards just ditch the 8800gts. You will be very happy.
When you do get a second card installed you might have to enable physX in the nvidia control panel (some do and some don't). If the second card isn't showing up in octane then enable it, if so then leave it alone. Once in octane you just need to specify which card is to be used to render. Do this before clocking on the mesh node. There you go. If you want to use both cards to render at the same time you will be limited in memory to the card with the least amount of ram. I use to use an 8800gt 512 when I first started using Octane and have switched to 2x gtx470's. Makes the old card just seem sad.

Hi havensole!
Thank You for Your fast answer!
I actually have no possibilities to buy a better card than 8800 GTS. I have to wait 6-8 months and get some more cash. But GTX 465 is in my future budget plans

but not for now.
Thank you one more time

If you will be waiting another 6-8 months there should be other gtx400 series cards out, like dual chip gpu's, and I wouldn't be surprised to see the gtx470 drop to where the gtx465 is now. Even if not I'd suggest saving a little more for the 470 as you gain a lot for not much more money.
