BUG!!! on Dual GTX590 system

Hi Karba,

Today I upgraded my 2x480 to 2x590, and in test rendering this scene with the 2 cards on (Octane recognizes 4 GeForce GTX590 (compute model 2.0)), i get an Instant CRASH on my system, goes all black and i have to hard reset the machine in order to get it up and running again.

I tried the following

complex - image below
simple scene - just plane and teapot no materials

4x 590 (complex and simple scene) - render size 960x540 - Instant Crash (512 samples)
3x 590 (complex scene) - 1280x720 and 960x540 - renders halfway then crashes (1024 samples)
2x 590 (complex scene) - 1280x720 (4096 samples) renders fine

tested 2.58c thru 2.58e

Driver version 301.42

Any idea why its crashing?

What about GPU temperature? Did you try it on standalone?
Is your power supply enough for 2 GTX590?

PSU is 1500w

Temperature ranges from 75 to 85 deg.

I will try on standalone, i forgot to makw that test

Did you check the temperature right at crash moment?

It is also very important that the rails of the PSU are used evenly.
Try to compare PT with PMC. PT consumes more energy. So if PMC works fine with the 3. scenario (crash @ 1024 s) then this is an indication.
Then test a different combination of power rails of your PSU.

@Karba

i will try to check temperature at crash moment, but im pretty sure itsnot so much a temp issue, because as i said, (this with 4gtx590 on) a scene with a teapot and a plane (NO materials applied) as soon as i hit render i get an instant shutdown of my system... i should stress that when i mean CRASH i really meant SHUTDOWN on the system, i apologize for refering it as a crash earlier on.

@Refractry

I will try and as you say and see if thats the issue thx..

Oh and BTW..none of the renders im making now are using PMC or PT im just using Direct light actually...

thx for you help will try and make more tests today and get back to you guys.

Ok I did what refractry (thank you VERY MUCH refractry) suggested and now the computer reboots, it doesnt just shutdown like before... i had the cards on same rails, now they are split up..

now when i render a simple scene (again plane and box no materials) the scene renders at 2048, but when i bump it to 64000 (just tesing) after some 10 seconds or so...PC reboots again.

Another test i did was to disconnect (from cuda devices panel) the 1st gpu leaving all others rendering..this time it doesnt reboot or crash (tested using std alone 2.57 Octane.

all 3 gpu seem to stay between 83 to 90 deg the one thats not rendering stays at about 66

the cards are close to each other.

i havent changed drivers yet, what are the recommended drivers please?

Hi Nildoe,

I use the 296.10 Geforce drivers.

What's the brand of your psu, mb and gpus?

You did tests with another gpu based rendering engine using all the gpus?

Your workstation resets when gpus are cold or reach 90° temp?

edit: I think that your psu fails.
