Help on a night scene

Hi Octane experts, I need your help!
I'm working on an interior scene by night (sorry, I cannot post the images, I'm under NDA), the only light source is from the window but it's night time, so obviously the scene is very dark, but that's fine.
The problem is I still get a lot of noise even at 64000 samples on pmc.
Any suggestion on how to get a cleaner render with a very very dark scene?
Thank you in advance.

=) hi,
Well, it dipends on a lot of factors =) how dark is not the main one though. If it's night scene, probably You are using some emiters maybe mesh emiters with high poly, maybe small emiters..- these tend to produce a bit more noise..
Other issues might be Your material setings. Try to optimise things here and there - look witch kernel works better for You. Sometimes it just don't have to beright, it has to look right, You know - cheat a bit =)
If You use some ilumination from outside, sometimes it's good idea to take a look at portals - in some cases these might speed up the rendering process.
These are few ideas that come to my head =) but it's very hard to say for sure what is causing extender render times =) It could help if You would mock up similar scene fast..

Thank you glimpse!
The scene is lit with an HDR map, it's the only light source.
I've heard about portals before but I never used them. What is a portal and how does speed up the render time?

Ghm, i'm not sure if You can use portal with hdr (never tried that). Portal is a geometry that is facing inwards (normal to interior) with portal material prescribed =) it basicly tells render engine that the light is coming from that side - simple as that - & because the engine knows where from the light is coming it could solve some calculations a bit faster. (very primitive explanation=)
From my observation (so far ) i don't get so drasticly different results in my scenes, just slightly better in some cases, but it might be a bigger deal for You. unless You try, You never know for sure.
