my gtx 480 not up to speed

Hi guys,

I just got my new gtx 480 yesterday and tried it out with the latest beta 2.2. However, when running the benchmark scene, I'm not getting the ~4 megasample/sec speed that everyone else is getting.

I'm getting about 3.5 megasamples/sec in winXP 32bit and 3.36 megasamples/sec in Winxp 64bit. I overclocked my CPU from 2.66 to 3 ghz, but I get the same exact megasample speeds.

I'm guessing it has to do something with the OS and nvidia driver? I'm using the most recent driver from Nvidia.

Is there some sort of optimizations I need to do in windows or the drivers to get my gtx480 up to ~4 megasamples/sec?

Yeah, I'm looking forward to re-rendering some parts of my Killer Bean Forever in Octane and also getting started on my next short. ;)

Thanks folks,
Jeff

afaik we did introduce quite a few changes in the 2.2 version, including the recursive texture stack which does slow it down a bit.
more flexibility = less speed, however we can still optimize a lot and 2.3 will be faster.

Thanks Radiance,

The weird thing was, I tried the benchmark scene in beta 2.1 and I was getting 2.87 megasamples/sec in winxp 64bit. Maybe I'll try clean sweeping my nvidia driver.

Good news,

I reinstalled beta 2.1 and I'm getting 3.95 megasamples/sec now. It must've been a driver thing. I first installed the gtx drivers from the CD.

Thanks Radiance,
