Noncircular vignetting?

Vignetting seems to react to frame aspect ratio. Shouldn't it be circular?

it should be circular, however on a wide render it will be clipped.
have you any screenshots or equiv ?

Sorry for being "smarty", because actually I have no objections since it's more a post effect anyway. It just seemed strange besides such a precise natural tunings as camera response profiles etc.
