Hi all, here's my latest...

I tried to push realism as far as I could, but I definitely need to practise...

Comments and advice more than welcome, as usual!
Cheers !

Very good! a few things to make this better. The carpet, much denser if possible. The right photo, change it, or remove passepartout (bright sky blends with passepartout and is distracting). The alarm clock has a distracting color as well. Let it cook longer or do something about the floor planks as they are quite noisy (perhaps too much bump/normal). edit: the white blanket on the pillow area near the floor looks unnaturally stretched and torn.

Other than that, a very realistic look!

i do really like it actually!

The tripod lamp has a strange effect above it, it looks like it's smoking :)

and the IES of the bedlamp on the right is not in the right position...

other than that very realistic!

Hi guys!
:)

Thanks for your replies and comments.

Carpet :
Indeed it definitely needs to be denser, but although I'm using 2x GTX560-Ti it slows down Blender big time, and eats up quite a lot of GPU RAM to render...
I need to find a solution for this.
:(

Color of the alarm clock :
It can look quite unusual...
I tried with a plain aluminium-like material, but this red-metal livens up the scene - otherwise it's all too monochromatic... (grey/white/beige)

Floor planks :
Yep, I must have some kind of problem with the bump and/or spec here...
:(

White blanket "torn" :
I'm not a digital sculptor at all, i.e. I'm struggling a lot with organic and fabric modelling.
So I used Blender's fabric simulator : a simple subdivided plane that I let fall on the bed.
But it looked to me a bit too bland and rigid, so I re-sculpted and stretched it a bit, hence the strange effect...

Tripod lamp - light above :
Indeed there's a strange "smoke" effect above the tripod lamp :?
=> That's probably because I didn't use IES for this, but just a lightbulb (a sphere centered in the lampshade)

IES of the bedlamp :
=> I used 2 horizontally symetric planes which I positioned under and above the lampshade, and applied the same IES to both. The lampshade is an emitter as well.
=> Maybe I should have used just one IES above the lampshade, and but a lightbulb centered in the lampshade?
(so I get a nice IES effect above, and a more diffuse light underneath?)

Thanks again for your kind and helpful comments : every time I post an image I feel like I'm improving, and that's thanks to you guys !!!
;)

nice work , I like it

: 1 carpet would be if was shorter if you don't want to make it dense
: 2 the smoky effect of the one lamp , I guess the temperature was to high of the emitter
: 3 I would set down the DOF a little bit , to much of it will make it looks like doll house
as the range of it is a little bit to low , if you use 35mm for the camera then skip the DOF effect or at last lower values

I like the mini red accents , it is chaotic design but interesting

you did nice job

Thanks for your kind and helpful reply MEC4D !
:D

=> I'm gonna try to apply what everyone told me about this picture, and will keep you informed with a new image.

Many many thanks again!
;)

(note : yep that's totally chaotic design - I just let my imagination and inspiration flow, as I'm no interior designer at all... )

Hi :)

Worked some more on this pic (althought it wasn't supposed to be a WIP, sorry!)

I changed nearly all the things that you pointed out.
I have to admit that I didn't spend much time working on it, as I have already spend too much time on it.
:?

What comes out of this work is that I really need to practise light settings, as I tend to spend hours trying to get the settings right.
I'm gonna make myself a light-test room and crack this...!

Thanks again for your comms guys !
;)

great job, I like it much better the lower DOF made it more realistic to the eye in this camera style and the objects look bigger as they should .
did you change the other lamp light to the same K color as the small lamps ? it seems to have to bright white color compared to the others
that are just perfect , plus emitters create always sort of coat and need longer rendering time .. it is already better but still to white in my opinion
everything bellow 58000 K would be better for indoor lighting like that ., if you ask me I would shut it down as there is already a lot ambient light ..
and I see just breakfast for one ? hehe

Nice improvement , thanks for sharing

Hi MEC4D, many thanks for following my humble work ;)

Yep, indeed many of my problems come from understanding how light works.
BUT... I spent 2 hours yesterday testing out all of the settings, and I understand it much better now.
My future pics should be better (well I hope  )

Many thanks again for your advice, it really helps.
;)

See ya !
