I would appreciate advise on which laptop to buy.
Used for CAD and rendering
They all have same processor.
1. Dell 17.3" HD+ WLED (1600x900) Screen, 8GB 1333 MHz DDR3 SDRAM, 750GB 7200RPM SATA, Nvdia GT525M, 1GB (Quad Core) $1053
2. Dell 17.3" HD+ WLED TL (1600x900) Screen, 8GB 1333 MHz DDR3 SDRAM, 1.5TB 7200RPM SATA, Nvdia GT555M, 3GB with Optimus $1364
3. ASUS 15.6" LED HD (1366x768) Screen, 16GB DDR3, 1 TB 5400 RPM, Nvdia GT630M, 2GB DDR3 $1299
I am leaning towards Option 2 (larger screen, HD and 3GB Video), however Option 3 does have more ram
Cheers

My personal view would be not to use a laptop for Octane.
Laptop gpu aren't much performance wise, the navigation will lag, and will likely be prone to overheating.
Better to have a decent desktop with 2gpu for rendering + a basic card for the display.
If you are really keen on Octane buy a couple of GTX580/1.5 or3gb for your existing pc or wait for the GTX680/2 or 4gb (assuming they are going to end up being OK performers.

)
If you get a 3 or 4 gb model consider adding another 12gb sys ram.

Thank you for your reply. I should have explained myself better. I do not intend to use laptop for any serious rendering, however, I have recently broken my foot and will be on crutches for the 6-8 weeks. I will still use my main workstation for production rendering and I am looking at upgrading the graphics card form the quadro 600
By getting a laptop, it will make working a little more comfortable, as well as being able to use it at uni.
Cheers

what about this one
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005UUS6MO/ref ... wo=&hvqmt=
this have separate cooling for CPU and GPU on the back , and I use it for business and also for Octane
but I am going to build next week a Octane oriented desktop , however I use the laptop style above and it does not over heat
as it was design for 3d usage mostly ..in case you are interested to get one this will be not bad choice in your situation plus the prices dropped already
