hi ..
i am back with my dumb question :-)

after rendering that mini iron man .. i am thinking about animating it .
in the next beta ... would i be able to :
- render exported animation out of maya ? ( bone deformation ? motion blur on those deformation ? )
- get some sort of material self ilumination ? ( may be some glow ? )
- key the color / intensity /or whatever atribut on the time line ?
- be able to render mask ? ( black and white .. material even if it mean starting a new render ..as long as the camera is locked i could at least put my glow in post )

thx for bringing any kind of light in my darkness :-)

christophe ,

christophe ,
Those would be cool, but I think more complex animation is towards the end of Radiance's todo list. Many of these features require instancing (as far as I understand, it means be able to have multiple OBJ meshes in the same scene and thus capable of individual animation and such). The material self illumniation is what material emmiter is. Haven't seen much talk about keying color and such, but maybe you can do that with command line already. (don't quote me on that, I'm pure noob as far as command line rendering). And the mask would be cool, but Radiance been saying it's impossible for current graphics cards with limited memory to handle multiple films. So hopefully we can have a complicated multiple render of different pass later on.

Hi,

These are all things that requires various foundations like instances and MLT etc, which we will work on in beta3.
So you'll have to have a bit of patience...

Thank you for the answers...
I was not thinking about a real multi pass output system as I am well aware of the memory limitation of today's video card .
I was just thinking about something along those line... (based on my experience in mental Ray in xsi and Maya )
Keep in mind I am just an artist and my brain do not work like a programer :-)

My surface could have two slot for the shader .
The standard one... And one where the state is either render 100 % black or white.
I do the render of my animation with the standard shader
Then I switch to the custom attribute for the special shader and rerender the animation again ..
Should be damn fast as I do not need any gi/raytracing
Et voilĂ  .. I have generated my mask that I can use in post :-)
What you say ?
