Not sure if this is Octane Related

Hi there. This may not be octane render related but allow me to ask it anyway.
Is it possible to convert proxy objects to .obj file or have it included in .obj file? If it is... how does the material editor in Octane works?

what do you mean with proxy objects ?
Radiance

You mean proxy as in instances? or like renderer specific proxys like vray's?
In the first case they are on their way

plus radiance did say they would be using collada and rib format to support instances since obj format does not.
In the second case, those are just meshes adapted to their individual renderers you can use their tools to convert them back to a standard format and then export them to obj.
Hoped it helped

thanks for the replies radiance and kubo.
proxy like vray proxy. it is different from instances i guess because it lessen the number of poly's and vertices. i really hope radiance will find a way to make octane compatible to vray.
another noob question. if the scene is open in Octane and I want to add another object... which is effective? to convert the whole object as .obj or the additional object alone?
ragards.

you need to reexport a new OBJ with the new geometry and relink it with the relink button on the meshnode (at the end of it)

an vray proxy, is just like a regular instance, the difference is that vray's are meshes optimized for that renderer, Octane (according to Radiance) will use instances thru the collada files, which will work just the same, and it will be up to the Octane team to optimize those instances to get the best out of our GPUs.
Even thou I do work with vray (and seriously hope to totally replace it with octane, cause I'll take unbiased anytime over biased on the same render times margins), I don't see the need to force octane to work along with vray, or any other renderer.
But if what you want is to convert your current scenes from vray to octane, there is an script to revert from vray proxys to standard meshes
http://home.comcast.net/~crubadue/vray/VRMeshToMax.zip, and a nice free script to convert any material from any one renderer to another (Multyconvertor
http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/scrip ... yconvertor).
There is no instances for now in octane

but I'm sure that they won't keep us waiting too long.

@radiance and kubo
awesome explanation and thanks for the links kubo. i do hope also that i can replaced vray by octane but i guess i have to upgrade my pc first

looking at radiance processor made me decide to purchased the beta though
