Classic "Club" armchair

Hi everyone!
:)

Just like I did for the 2011 New Year Comp, I decided to model an object that I really love : one of those classic "Club" armchairs.
Then I started modelling the floor and the walls, and before I knew it, it ended up in modelling a whole scene...

Although it's only a personal project, I worked hard on it to try and get this photographic feel, but I'm not getting there yet...

All comms and advice are more than welcome...

Cheers,
;)

Any idea about how I could make this pic better?
Thanks!

well, it already looks good :) some thoughts - but just my personal taste:

i'd give the leather a little less color structure and on the other hand a little more bump. imo the visible/color structure and the surface detail (reflections via bump) don't yet match perfectly.

the edge of the carpet looks a little bright and unstructured.

the glass material looks a bit to reflective imo. visible by bright edges and bright gloss.

a window ledge might add a little more real-world detail (except this was taken from a real world window without one ;))

and you could play with lighting, camera angle and dof to add a little "drama" to the scene ;)

Personally I think it is not enough contrast in the scene. All the colors are terribly similar and it is a pretty dull color too. The shoes are very thin and the texture on the armchair; I don't know, but it seems like it is stretching at some areas and the specular highlights are too smooth, a reflection map would roughen that up a bit. And as t_3 says; a more defined bump map is definitely needed. Other than that a window ledge would be nice, maybe even some curtains? A visible background outside the window would also add to the scene. But I got to say though; the models you have used ( chair, table and desk looks very good! )

I'd like to see if you can make this scene photo realistic! :D

Hi!
:)

- I re-worked the armchair's texture (bump/spec/colour)
- I made the shoes "thicker" (indeed they were really thin!!!)
- I re-modelled a brand new carpet and added bumps to it ("modelled" bumps - so it's not flat)
I also decided to make it brighter so I could get more contrast, as Sportler said.

I also thought about what t_3 said in order to give a more "dramatic" feel to it.
-> I lessended the DoF + added a second lightsource (outside the camera field)
-> The shadows that the light generates add more depth to the picture, and it makes the textures look better in my opinion.

Below are 2 tests with different Film/ISO/Gamma settings...
The 3rd picture is a heavily-post-produced version of the 2nd image.

I think it's better, what do tou think?
Many thanks again for your advice !

i think it got personality now ;)
the last on i like best. imaging it in b/w, i start getting the feeling, some old school villain has just left the scene ;)
(the only thing i miss to complete this particular picture is a waving curtain somewhere :))

Great job, like the composition.
Personally i would change the color of the liquid maybe even choose one of the whisky or rum from the online database if you like.
Also the shoe looks a bit like plastic rather than leather eventhough it is not in focus.
Thanks for sharing and watching the progress.

Many thanks for your helpful comments guys :)

I think the picture is finished now - at least for the time being - as I've got work to do and can't spend much more time on it...

Will post some more new stuff soon.

Thanks again, see ya!
