PCI-E graphics cards

Just a query.

I have a dell computer with a PCI Express x16 and I assume is a version 1 PCI-E.

The latest cards can handle PCI-E 2.0 x 16. From what I can gather PCI-E 2.0 x16 is twice as fast as PCI-E 1.0++ x 16 in terms of io between gpu and cpu

As I understand it, PCI-E 2.0 cards are compatible with PCI-E 1.0++slots.

My question is - is it worth buying a top of the range Nvidia card with a PCI-E 1.0++ connection or do I go for a lower spec card that has throughput less than the PCI-E 1.0++ max?

Does Octane depend on io between gpu and cpu?

Hope this makes sense

Thanks

Hi,

Since octane only transfers the data to the gpu once when you load the scene into the GPU when starting the engine,
and subsequently only sends small updates for viewport and material control, you're ok with a 1x PCI-E transfer.

Octane even works very well on 8x and 4x PCI-E connections.
