Hello everyone, I'm willing to buy a Dell Alienware m18x with dual nvidia gtx 580m graphics card in SLI. I wanted to know if I can give an advantage octane with both graphics cards, even if they are in sli. Sorry if the questions can 'seem trivial, but before making a purchase so expensive I want to be sure that both cards are working. Thank you all in advance

If mobility is the only need you should go with this.
if you can go for desktop one... probably you might be looking to have more GPU slots.

really interesting but expensive laptop
I configured a top system....over 3.000 euros

With Octane you need a configuration that needs to be powered on for several hours, sometime all night long.
I donno if a laptop can be stressed like a real workstation.
The M18X is perfect for videogames, cuda computations full load the gpus and the fans will be noisy, in few days you will have a lot of dust inside the case.
Dust is everywhere and kills laptops if stressed.

Unfortunately I need to get a laptop, I already 'a Dell Precision M4500 but with a graphics card does not fit (quadro fx 880). So looking at the various laptops on the market seemed to me that one of the best, considering that two cards graphics, but as long as' you can use both.

You can disable SLI in the NVidia control panel. Even with SLI enabled Octane will work, although it seems to have less memory available then.

I would recommend a Clevo P180HM instead. Clevo made Alienware laptops until just a few years ago, and ever since Dell seems to be playing catch up. I use a Clevo for all my professional work and it's impressive just how well it handles heat during renders that take a week or more.
