What do you think about the idea to put a "picture of the day" area in front of the website or something similar to beginn with, like "picture of the week/month"?
Would be nice to see good images updated and rewarded daily/weekly/monthly on the frontpage!
Regards
Melese

Opps, maybe you can stick a thread in the Galery forum to let people know their image will take place on the frontpage with their name on it, if it's good enough, so they will have something to cheer on and we might see more upcoming images in the gallery? Also a headline for the "Picture of the day/week/month..." might be good so everyone will notice it's the picture of the day/week....

Another thing to reward users would be weekly / monthly rendering challenges
Judged on rendering / lighting / materials / originality (but not modelling)
Each challenge would have a "theme", something simple like "cartoon" / "glass" / "teapot"
Things that are enough open for people to make original things on top of the theme
No prices to win, only a special gallery titled "weekly competitions" with sub-gallery named by themes or weeks
And in every gallery, all the pictures from all the participants + the winner image in first + the winner image in the thumbnail of the gallery
(kinda like CGTalk lighting challenges, once finished, they are hosted in dedicated galleries)
Sure its a lot of work from the admins (organization, finding themes, creating the galleries, uploading, voting pictures etc...)
But its a good way to make the forum always active, to get and to make critics, to improve, and for new users to get used to Octane
Look at the current FERMI competition, a lot of people make renders to win the prices, but a lot of people also do it for fun
I think weekly or monthly rendering challenges could work, maybe when the forum gonna have 2 or 3 time the current ammount of members
Currently, there's too much things to work on first, like core features etc...
But in the future it would be nice to have such challenges

Yes, kinda like CGtalk or many other forums.
Nothing to win, but rewarding them with an award under the authors name.
Not tomorrow or next week, but maybe in the near future.
I wouldn't mind to code .php or design award icons ect. for this kind of features.

challenge should be community driven..
take the initiative and let the programmers do their thing else where.
works like this many other places..

Unfortunatelly I have not so much time right now for this competition, unless it is allowed to use some of my assets for the competition?!?

you can submit whatever you want, but we do take those things into account during judging.
anyways, the more submissions the better.
