The material ball is now included by default in Octane render
This topic is open to anyone to see the progress, or to make comments

Here's all the Meshes im working on currently to use in Octane
Documentation and .3DM / .OBJ files are coming soon
All meshes done in Moment of Inspiration 3D
Renders are not Octane because im waiting like everyone one else
Its just boring old CPU renderer
Octane logo from Radiance

Octane logo fun thing
work in progress, maybe included in a cornell box I like the shape

OLD MESSAGE: Im currently building a Cornell box for Octane based on the Cornell Program of Computer Graphics original data.
There's gonna be a floating Octane glass logo inside and behind a GretaMacBeth colorchecker.
The light coming from above gonna be a luminous polygon. The walls gonna have 5mm tickness.
(the thickness can be used to test subsurfaced walls maybe)
There's gonna be an option to light with a laser (a very focused ray of light) to show the color spectrum generated by the Octane glass logo.

Box size gonna be 55cm wide by 55 cm high by 57 cm deep.

Hi Sam,

I was wondering if you could further develop and get me a OBJ version of that material preview ball ?
I could use it to hard-code inside octane.

maybe you can refine it (add some texts, subsurface bar), do a few variations, and export to various mesh resolutions ?
if you want to get them to me just 7zip them and send me a PM or email :)

Thanks,
Radiance

The Octane symbol cutout is a little big on the ball IMHO... It doesnt leave much area to see the material properly..

Yeah I need to fix the Octane logo size a bit.
Im gonna make some changes but not today (im playing with Octane )
Radiance can you convert 3DM because I can provide you a 3DM file also. (or Iges / Sat)
Im gonna add subsurface bar.

For the text I plan to add the "octane" and "render" in two line or just the "octane" in the round base or in the sphere
What do you suggest ?

I need someone to do UV mapping and provide a texture grid for the ground.
Also someone should do lighting because I dont have experience in unbiased rendering :)
I dont know how to make a light rig the most neutral possible and suited for every materials.

hard-coding it in Octane could be awesome and ill be glad to help.

Hi,

the official name of the engine is 'Octane Render', please use that. :)
currently can only read .obj :)
rib support soon and maybe fbx or collada at a later stage :)

gotta get some rest now, very very tired :)

looks good, although i'd increase it just a teeny bit.
keep on playing and send it to me once you're done,
i'll be happy to include it in a node, so people can add a material ball node straight in the nodegraph editor.

btw, if someone has a high-res polygon utah teapot model too, please post it and i'll add that as a node too :)

Increased the Octane cutout size
Its between the "too big" and the "too small" one

(ps: ignore the white material, I messed up in my modeler its not suposed to be white, its the red one instead)

More natural response curve

The round thing in the middle, I dont think it looks good.
Im gonna try one going inside the sphere but not by that much. Just like if it was engraved.
Im gonna sleep so no more updates until tomorow :)
