Hi all, I'm a newcomer here, also I'm not good in rendering, so I have some questions on beginning with Octane, pls help me:

1. I am using my notebook HP dv6t with core i7 720 and GPU GT 230M 1G, is that ok for octane???
2. I had all newest update driver (197.16) and CUDA 3.0 also.
I am using SketchUp 7 for exporting to .obj, but I've got confuse on the option to export
3. When add mesh to octane, the preview is not exact as i want (the face)?
4. Can I reduce the number for render ( 16000 on present), It takes too long to preview!?

(p/s Sorry for my not good English)

1. Yea its OK, it's CUDA capable card and will work fine with Octane, but don't expect much from it, it has only 48 CUDA processors, it will be slow
2.Thats good.
3. I'm not sure what you mean, more screeenshots. Maybe someone with more SketchUp experience will help you
4.You can, but this will not decrease the time for previewing the scene faster, use clay button, and supersampling 4x4 button instead.

Also use OBJ import setting when importing obj, as I see you have wrong scale.

also disable the smooth option on materials like walls and boxes (with large angles)

Is your problem solved? in case not, i'm modelling in 3DS max, i had the same problem. Any kind of change to normals didn't work for me, i had to split the polygons of a mesh and reattach them according to the smooth groups i had done. this solved all the problems, it wasn't even flipped polygons. I think you can find free scripts somewhere around the net that can do it for you automatically. For now i'm still in a testing season so i do it by hand  :geek:

good luck!

you can just enable the 'use smoothgroups' in the obj import preferences panel and it will do that for you during import. (if you have smoothgroups exported)
